When can I expect to receive my testing results?

We would like you to receive testing results as soon as possible.  All emergency studies are reported immediately. Many tests involving the nervous system are sophisticated and involve the input of highly trained specialist to process and interpret these studies.

You can expect to receive results of routine nervous system imaging in approximately one week after the study is completed.  Remember that imaging of the nervous system is sophisticated and involves the input of highly trained specialists to process and interpret these studies. Results from emergency studies are available immediately. The following are typical imaging studies:

  • CT Scan
  • DEXA Scan
  • Bone Scan
  • PET Scan
  • X Rays

These tests evaluate the electrical and vascular systems of the body and most take up to one week to process and interpret.  The following are typical studies:

  • EEG
  • Transcranial Doppler
  • SSEP
  • VNG
  • Carotid Ultrasound
  • Echocardiogram

This is also known as EMG/NCV testing and is preformed by a board certified physician electromyographer. It takes 1-2 days to process the results which are then sent to the ordering provider. Please contact the ordering physician for the results.  If you wish to receive the results directly, please contact the HFMG medical records department. The Electromyography lab is not authorized to release results in this fashion.

Routine chemistries take 2 to 3 days. Medication levels take up to 2 weeks. Antibody levels and other reference lab send outs require up to 4 weeks. Biopsies up to 6 weeks. CSF Fluid preliminary results become available within 2 days with the final results taking up to 6 weeks.  We generally will not report the results to you (unless necessary) until all labs are available. Please let us know if you would like to be notified in a different fashion.

This testing usually requires multiple visits to complete. Results become available within 6 weeks following the last testing visit. The results of this testing is given in person by the ordering physician. We do not give these results over the phone.

Please note that most of the above testing requires insurance authorization. Depending on the insurance plan and nature of testing required, the authorization process can take up to 2 weeks and sometimes longer.
